Effect of Adrenalectomy on Cadmium - and Turpentine - Induced Hepatic Synthesis of Metallothionein and Cv
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent reports have strongly implicated glucocorticoids in the induction of hepatic metallothionein synthesis and hypozincemia which occurs in certain pathophysiologic conditions. Studies were performed in rats to determine the effect of adrenalectomy and glucocorticoid treatment on the hepatic accumulation of metallothionein subsequent to the administration of cadmium and turpentine, two diverse substances known to induce hypozincemia and hepatic synthesis of mtalltoesindus wll aam aofeto~prmentact ratsnBy 24humboof etallcohionlas wrellte ase inraepasamacrofetoprotein initccas.B 4h oth centration. Results indicate that hepatic synthesis Of a2-macrofetoprotein, but not metallothionein, is mediated by adrenal hormones. Thus, glucocorticoids do not play a "vital" role in hepatic metallothionein accumulation or hypozincemia induced by inflammatory stress, as previously postulated.

Differential pulse polarographic determination of murine metallothionein induction kinetics.
Quantitative determination of tissue levels of metallothionein was performed using differential pulse polarographic analysis. Cadmium induction of mouse hepatic metallothionein was observed to be linear with respect to dose until a sharp saturation maximum was reached. This metal-stimulated synthesis was completely inhibited by actinomycin D. It was found that a 2- and 7-fold molar excess of co...

Background & Aim:Cadmium is an important industrial and environmental pollutant. Cadmium is one of the most toxic and carcinogenic heavy metals to organisms. This heavy metal mainly distributes to the liver and kidney in humans and animal and, causing acute hepatic injury. Experimental: The ethanol extract of Satureja hortensis L. (Lamiaceae family), was evaluated for its activity aga...

متن کاملProtective effect of metallothionein on cadmium toxicity in isolated rat hepatocytes.
An isolated rat hepatocyte preparation was used to study the cellular toxicity of cadmium and the protective effects of metallothionein on cadmium-induced toxicity. Exposure of primary suspension cultures of isolated rat hepatocytes to Cd2+ (0-35.7 microM) for 15 min resulted in a dose-dependent reduction in the synthesis of cellular proteins during a subsequent 6 h incubation. Such inhibition ...

Introduction: Cadmium chloride causes hepatic dysfunction. In the present study, the protective effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Alcea rosea aerial parts were investigated on the hepatic enzyme dysfunction induced by cadmium chloride in adult male rats. Method: In this experimental study, 54 adult male Wistar rats were divided into six groups of 9 as follows; control group, sham group 1 re...
